Hero Says Sandara's Departure Begins The Downward Of His Career
Hero Angeles said that his career slow decline from stardom started when his former on-screen partner Sandara Park returned to her native Korea to start her own career.
Even during their more celebrated times as a love team, constant quarrels plagued their relationship off-cam, forcing them to put on affection for their throngs of fans back then.
Angeles, in an interview on "Showbiz Inside Report" aired Saturday, recounted his thriving career in show business, a world he was catapulted into by way of emerging champ in reality talent search "Star Circle Quest" in 2004.
Park, his fellow "questor," was a constant attachment to his name, which Angeles said, eventually proved detrimental to the health of his career.
It didn't help that they had constantly argued despite their sweet image on camera.
"Ano siya, weird. Parang cartoons siya dati. Iba 'yung kultura niya, nila. Iba 'yung trip niya. Pero may mga kasundo naman siya. Kasundo ko naman, pero lagi kami nag-aaway. Hindi ko alam, pero parang palagi mainit 'yung ulo niya sakin," Angeles said.
Their quarreling eventually led to a confrontation where Park admitted disliking him. Despite this, Angeles said, he decided to keep showing their supporters that they are still in good terms.
"Kinausap ako nu'n dati, may nakakita nga nu'n eh. Nakatulala siya sa table. Nilapitan ko, sabi ko, 'Anong problema mo?' Tiningnan ako, sabi, 'I don't like you.' Sabi ko, 'Bakit, may ginawa ba ako?' Tapos hindi siya umiimik," Angeles said.
"Kailangan ko, sabi ko, kailangan kong pakita sa tao na okay kami, kasi ayoko rin naman na kagalit siya," he added.
Two films and one TV series later, things took a turn for the worse when Park decided to return to Korea, her native country, to pursue a similar career path.
Park's sudden departure to Korea, Angeles said, was the beginning of his career's downward spiral, as almost all of his project had him attached with his on-screen partner.
"Nag-start siya nu'ng si Sandara, umalis na. Nagalit ako sa kanya, sobra. As in, magsu-shoot kami ng pelikula, parang farewell movie niya 'yun eh. Ang daming naka-line up na projects, commercials, tapos bigla, in a snap, aalis ka," Angeles said.
Angeles sought to salvage his solo career with ABS-CBN, but the alleged mishandling of his showbiz engagements by his brother and manager Henry only served to aggravate the situation.
In 2008, Angeles formally transferred to GMA where he starred in a number of television series. His last major TV project was in 2009.
Asked if he intends to make a showbiz comeback, Angeles said he intends to become an actor again should opportunities arise.
"Kung may magbubukas ng pinto, papasok ako. 'Yun din, [kakatok ako], depende sa pinto," he said.
Since returning to Korea, Park on the other hand, has enjoyed immense popularity and success as part of performing girl group 2NE1.
