WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria beats Mexican Omar Niño
Romero in their boxing fight on Sunday, May 13, at the Ynares Sports Arena
in Pasig City.
Viloria's victory puts him as the undisputed World Boxing Organization (WBO)
flyweight champion and popularly known as the "Hawaiian
Punch."
The stint was sweet revenge for Brian Viloria who was fighting Omar Romero for the third time.
Viloria lost to Romero in August 2006. Later that year, they had a rematch but the fight was declared a no contest after the Mexican failed a post-fight drug test.which ended to a draw.
Third time’s a charm for Viloria who dominated Romero throughout the fight and ended the bout during round 9 to a technical knockout victory.
Speaking after Sunday's bout, Viloria said he had become stronger since the
two previous encounters.
"He didn't feel my power in the first two fights," he said.
Viloria, of Filipino descent and based in Hawaii, almost knocked Romero down
in the fourth round with the Mexican visibly dazed by his opponent's punches.
Viloria now has a record of 31 wins (17 KOs), 3 losses, and 1 draw. While Romero known as the "Giant Killer" has 31 wins , 5 losses and 2 draws.
