Nietes-Salguera Fight: Main Event of Pinoy Pride XIV

WBO Light Flyweight Champion Donnie Nietes is scheduled to make the first defense of his title against young hard hitting Mexican Felipe Salguero in the main event of Pinoy Pride XIV in Manila on June 2, 2012.

Donnie is a methodical fighter who triple the young Mexican's experience and ring knowledge. The day Felipe Salguero debuted as a professional fight in April 2008 in Mexico, Nietes was already a world champion.

But in boxing all opponents are danggerous. "Salguero is a Mexican. Mexican are born warriors. We don't take Felipe Salguero lightly. That's why we have been preparing carefully," commented Niete's trainer Edito Villamor during today's presscon announcing the Pinoy Pride XIV. 

Felipe Salguero of Mexico who has a record of 16-2-1 with 11 knockouts says he plans to win by knockout over defending WBO champion Donnie Nietes.


Salgueros said he had no fears about fighting in the Philippines and wasn’t worried about a possible hometown decision. In answer to a question from Lopez on whether he felt the judges would favor Nietes, Salguero replied, “No, the judges will be fair; I just want to give a clear decision on the outcome of this fight and not like the Nietes and Principe Garcia fight which was very close and many believed Principe Garcia won.”

The Mexican challenger said he has “always been training, knowing a big fight will come. I am ready and I will end my sparring this week before I head to the Philippines this Saturday (Sunday morning Philippine Time).

Pinoy Pride XIV at the plush Resorts World Hotel & Casino in Pasay City, Manila on June 2 is promoted by the top boxing promotion company in the Philippines, ALA Boxing and will be televised by ABS-CBN Channel 2.
