Army Shoot Teacher in Miagao, Iloilo

Philippine Army soldier shoot volunteer teacher of  Palaca-Damilisan Elementary School in Miagao, Iloilo Monday morning.

According to Miagao police, Private John Rey Chiva, 25, of the Army's 82nd Infantry Battalion, was a suitor of Sherryl Molase, 22, of Mambatad, Miagao but the latter ignored the soldier’s advances.

Chiva went to the school Monday morning in hopes of talking to Molase. The two have a conversation at past 8 a.m when they suddenly  had an argument. Chiva then shot Molase in the face before he shot himself in the forehead.

Chiva declared dead at the hospital while Molase is under observation at the Iloilo St. Paul’s Hospital after suffering from a gunshot wound behind her right ear with the bullet exiting her left eyebrow.

According to P02 Deogracias Nobleza of the Miag-ao PNP, they recovered from the scene a caliber .45 pistol with two magazines and live ammunitions and two spent shells of the same gun caliber. They also found the ID cards and photos of Chiva and Molase.

The Philippine Army has expressed willingness to help Molase recover. They also said Chiva was not assisting soldiers in the Brigada Eskwela program when the incident took place as had earlier taken a leave of absence without permission.
